Community Summer Reading Challenge

Hosted by Page Masters

June 1st-August 15th

2026

A relaxed, family-friendly reading challenge designed to support students in grades 4–6 over the summer months. This challenge is open to families regardless of school participation and does not require enrollment in any program. Do you homeschool? See additional enrollment information.

These selections are curated to spark curiosity, strengthen reading stamina, and prepare students for the Page Masters 2026–2027 competition. We recommend students engage with at least one Page Masters title this summer to build momentum and deepen comprehension before the school year begins.

What The Challenge Is

The Community Summer Reading Challenge is a self-paced reading opportunity for students entering grades 4–6. Students read from our recommended book list that was created to support reading stamina, vocabulary growth, and comprehension. There are no daily assignments, no worksheets, and no required reading schedules. Families choose how and when reading happens. Some books from this list appear on our 2026-2027 Competition Literature List. If your child’s school is participating in the Page Masters competition, this is a great opportunity to get a head start!

How Families Participate

Participation is simple:

  1. Register your student for the challenge

  2. Download our Summer Reading List & Challenge Materials

  3. To complete the challenge, students read a minimum of 4 books total: 2 books from the Page Masters Summer Reading List (to keep everyone connected) and 2 books of their own choosing (to keep things fun). Audiobooks, read alouds, and rereads all count.

  4. Read throughout the summer at a pace that works for your family. Books may be read independently, read aloud by an adult, or listened to via audiobook. All reading counts!

  5. Complete the verification form to submit your reading

  6. The school (or homeschool cohort group) with the most books read wins

Prizes:

Top school: $500 book voucher

Participating students from the top school: Page Masters participation pack

Top reading student overall: Movie tickets for Wildwood in theaters (Fall 2026)

Why Summer Reading Still Matters

Research consistently shows that long breaks from reading can make it harder for students to regain momentum in the fall. This challenge is designed to help students maintain their reading momentum from the school year.

Who This Is For

This challenge is a good fit for families who want to support reading without turning it into a daily battle. With a low barrier to entry and book choice autonomy, your student will enter the school year strong.

Homeschool & Independent Students

Homeschooling families: Create your group! Gather your friends and come up with a name for your cohort. Upon enrollment, enter your cohort name under “School Name.” All students registered under your cohort will earn points toward your total.

Independent students: If you are unable to create or join a homeschool cohort, you may register as “independent.” Your reading will count toward your personal goal of becoming this summer’s top reading student!
